MESSAGE FROM JEFF DAVIS, CHAIR, MONTEFIORE FOUNDATION: TRANSFORMING OUR SERVICES AND CAMPUSES TO KEEP OUR COMMITMENTS

Montefiore’s move to Beachwood from Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights, in 1991, was only the beginning. As the changing needs of the community  emerge, we continually seek ways to enhance our programs and services to meet the needs of our aging Jewish and general community.

Over the years, we have significantly grown our memory care services by adding two outstanding memory care assisted living residences – the Willensky Residence on our Beachwood campus and The Davis and Freda Robinson Residence on The Weils campus in Chagrin Falls. Additionally, we launched our new.… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

RABBI’S MESSAGE: BELIEVE IN THE FUTURE – A JEWISH TRADITION

In the midst of a contentious world, fraught with anguish, a glimmer of light has appeared in Israel. An outstanding neuroscientist, Professor Dimitrios Karussis, a former Greek national, not Jewish, who fell in love with Israel, is conducting research at the famous Hadassah Hospital with stem cells and making remarkable progress there with diseases formerly thought incurable, such as Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS),  Multiple Sclerosis and others.

The secret is to use stem cells from the patient’s own body, cultivate them in the laboratory, reproduce them in the tens of millions and then reinject them into the patient’s own body, with notable and identifiable results. This research is being replicated in major medical centers around the world, including our own Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

One Israeli, a former marathon runner, suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, now seriously disabled… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

Mr. Obama made the presentation on behalf of Yad VaShem to the son of Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds who had distinguished himself near the end of World War II as a hero and… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

MESSAGE FROM JEFF DAVIS, CHAIR, MONTEFIORE FOUNDATION: HELP MAKE A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR OUR RESIDENTS

All too often, we take for granted the life this country affords us. I am aware of this having heard stories from my father and grandparents about life in Europe. Last month, my wife Marti and I spent three days in Berlin as part of our 25th wedding anniversary celebration. Our first day was spent at the Topography of Terror Museum and Holocaust Memorial, with a guide on our second day.

Our guide took us to Wannsee, a beautiful area just outside Berlin where wealthy Berliners have summer homes beside a large lake – think Bratenahl and Lake Erie. The Wannsee Conference was held there in 1942…(Click on the newsletter link above for more… )

RABBI’S MESSAGE: A MARXIST INTERPRETATION OF HANUKAH – OUTRAGEOUS… OR IS IT?

Karl Marx, Russian philosopher, economist and revolutionary socialist, did not come into existence until 2,000 years after Judah the Maccabee. However, scholars have pointed out that the division of social
classes had, in fact, just developed prior to the Maccabean uprising*. It was this group of
farmers, scribes (the new interpreters of the Torah) and the lower and middle classes in
Jerusalem that were, during this period, the backbone of the Maccabean revolt and formed
the fighting force that joined Judah and his brothers.

The Hellenizers, as the upper class was called, were attracted to the wealth and fashions of Greek culture and were content to make peace with the pagan ways that accompanied it. To the horror of many …(Click on the newsletter link above for more… )

THE HOME RUN HITS A GRAND SLAM!

We are grateful for the more than 300 runners and walkers that came out despite the drizzle of rain to support The Montefiore Foundation! Together as a community, The Home Run raised more than $55,000 that will enable Montefiore to distinguish ourselves by providing the exemplary care residents, patients and families have come to depend on every day, regardless of ability to pay.

Congratulations to our top overall winners Brian Frantz and Yocheved Wylen! (Click on the newsletter link above for more and click here to view the photo gallery from the Home Run… )
