Montefiore’s 136th Annual Meeting| Wednesday, May 30, 2018 (photo gallery)

Montefiore celebrated its 136th annual meeting with more than 200 guests in attendance, including board members, staff, residents and community members. Board member Sally Wertheim presented Lois K. Goodman with the prestigious Harley I. Gross Presidential Award for her continued dedication and contributions to Montefiore after previously serving as Montefiore’s Board Chair from 1996 -1999.

The evening commenced with greetings from Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Vice Chair Richard Horvitz. Montefiore Board Chair Ira S. Goffman and President and CEO Seth Vilensky gave remarks on the impact that Montefiore has made on its residents and their families and will continue to make in the future. The meeting proceeded with the election of the incoming Board of Directors and proud recognition of Montefiore employees who have provided exceptional service while working at the organization.

The celebratory evening concluded with a powerful, live performance by Shining Star CLE 2017 First Place Winner Madelyn Wanke.

From the inspiring speeches to the festive atmosphere, Montefiore’s 136th annual meeting certainly “made an impact,” just as Montefiore itself does each and every day.

MESSAGE FROM SETH VILENSKY, MONTEFIORE PRESIDENT AND CEO: REHAB TEAM LAUDED FOR ACCOUNTABLE CARE

One of the new buzzwords in our fast-changing healthcare system is “accountable care.” Efforts by the government and healthcare providers are pushing for a more responsive and responsible healthcare system where providers are accountable for the care they provide and the outcomes they achieve.

At Montefiore, we have embraced the concept of “accountable care” and are working to provide the best possible experience to our patients and residents. Over the last year, we have instituted many improvements in our staffing levels, dining services… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

RABBI’S MESSAGE: THE WORD IS LOVE

The staff at Montefiore is exceptional…and we do not often recognize their enormous gifts to the residents, patients and general spirit of Montefiore.

We are blessed because of their untiring efforts every single day to dress, feed, give medication, treat with care, transport and do so many things to sustain our residents and all of our efforts to be a leading, excellent and compassionate home. Our employees have families of their own, spouses, children or elders whom they must care for before or after they come home from work.

Yet, relentlessly, they arise early and regardless of the weather carry out an implicit… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

MESSAGE FROM DEBBIE ROTHSCHILD, DIRECTOR, THE MONTEFIORE FOUNDATION: A REAL MITZVAH!

As I sit at my desk to write my newsletter message, I’m having a hard time separating my professional role as director of The Montefiore Foundation from my personal role as a family member whose loved one was cared for by the Vinney Hospice team just five years ago. My love for Montefiore runs deep on both levels.
My family and I were all shocked and saddened by my mother’s diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in December 2012. It was clear from the diagnosis that treatment was not an option. Although I did not work for Montefiore at the time, we knew where to reach out for help. The team of administrators, nurses, nursing assistants, social workers and clergy were, as my sister… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

A FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM CAROL WEISS, VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES AND PLANNING: ‘CHAI-LIGHTS’ OF MY 18 YEARS AT MONTEFIORE

In May 2000 I joined Montefiore’s team with encouragement from past board officer Patty Inglis. Montefiore had a handful of AOL accounts for email and a little over 300 employees. Fast forward to 2018 – we have more than 5000 emails on our e-blast list and nearly 700 employees between Montefiore and The Weils! The staff inspires me daily with their dedication and compassion.

As a native Clevelander returning home, Montefiore reconnected me to my Cleveland Jewish roots. Sally Wertheim, past Montefiore board chair, was instrumental… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)
