A SUMMER VACATION IN CLEVELAND…AT THE WEILS!
I’d like to tell you about my mother’s vacation this past summer. She is 91. Mom left her Bayonne, New Jersey home for a happy retirement in Boca Raton back in 1981. Since moving to Florida, her golden rule has been that she would travel to visit the kids and grandkids, only if the sun was shining where they lived and the temperature was at least 70 degrees.

Montefiore is proud to announce its new rehab transitional care suite. This spacious private suite, designed with comfortable surroundings, was created for patients who aren’t quite ready to go home and may need assistance after having rehab therapy and skilled nursing services at Montefiore after surgery, illness or injury.
This suite includes several amenities such as individual temperature control, private bathroom with a walk-in/spa-like shower and kitchenette with a refrigerator and dishwasher – all to help qualified rehab patients ease into the transition from rehab to life at home. The suite is beautifully furnished and has Internet access and a flat-screen television with built-in DVD player. Post-hospital patients staying in the transitional care suite will be under the supervision of nursing and therapy to safely assess their abilities to perform the activities of daily living.
“Suite” Transition
Rehab patient Norm Diamond with Sonia Naylor, nursing assistant
in Montefiore’s new rehab transitional suite.
“The goal of creating this new transitional suite is to assist rehab patients and prepare them to return home after receiving post-hospital nursing care and rehab therapy from our skilled clinicians. Our team promotes optimum levels of recovery and function by recognizing and intervening to meet each patient’s needs,” explained Lauren Rock, Montefiore President and CEO.
Patients will be responsible for managing their medications and other activities that are part of daily life such as bathing, grooming, dressing, laundry, etc. This service is covered under Medicare, managed care or private insurance.
Norm Diamond of Chagrin Falls – the first rehab patient to stay overnight in the transitional care suite – sums up his experience this way: “The suite has a special healing environment to it – with a homelike atmosphere. Staying for a few nights really helped build my confidence before I went home. It was a good way to test how independent I could be. I’m glad I stayed those few extra nights.”
Due to the successes of Montefiore’s two specialty orthopedic annexes, rehab patients will now have access to The Stella Kleinman Rehabilitation Therapy Gym – an additional 650 square feet of space dedicated to rehab therapy treatments – tripling the size of the previous space. It is a “specialty gym” designed to promote, restore and maintain overall fitness and health, while presenting an innovative approach to physical wellness and rehab therapies.
This airy and spacious rehab therapy gym is full of natural light and is bathed in soft colors, emanating a warm, soothing and healing environment. The roomy expansion has state-of-the-art modalities and therapeutic equipment – along with a kitchenette and washer/dryer – to provide patients the tools to help them get stronger, more independent and ready to go home.
Part of The Stella Kleinman Rehabilitation Therapy Gym
“The purpose of this expanded rehab therapy gym is to accommodate the growing number of orthopedic patients coming to Montefiore for rehab therapy due to our strong reputation for excellent rehab therapy and skilled nursing,” said Rock.
