UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN SPIRIT

The Philosophy of Hospice

The philosophy of hospice care is focused on preserving the quality of life. Our goal is to minimize suffering and enhance comfort through pain management and symptom control for people diagnosed with a life limiting illness.

By tending to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients and their families, we offer comfort and support when it matters most. Our Vinney hospice team members work together to provide the most appropriate care and support.

Traditionally, the patient’s physician makes a hospice referral, but other healthcare professionals, family members or friends are also encouraged to make referrals. The earlier a patient is referred for hospice care, the more support patients and loved ones receive during this difficult time.

Making decisions related to healthcare when we face a life-limiting illness can be confusing and frightening. At your request, a Vinney Hospice and Palliative Care of Montefiore can meet with you at the hospital, in your home, or at Montefiore to answer any of your questions and provide you will a list of our services.

Watch the moving testimonial by Barry Feldman as he tells his story of how Vinney Hospice helped his family through his father’s end-of-life journey.

We are here to help you with the referral process!

“Calling hospice is not about giving up, but rather it’s about allowing people control over their lives up until the end, surrounded by those they love in a compassionate and caring setting.”

Sandra Wolk Graubard,

daughter of a hospice patient
