Message from Lauren B. Rock, President and CEO
SUMMER'S END MAKES WAY FOR AUTUMN'S BEGINNINGS
Our Montefiore summer concluded with much celebration as we officially opened the new pavilion at The Weils. Thanks to the generosity of many donors and our hard-working team, we are ushering in a new era in providing senior healthcare services in Chagrin Falls and the surrounding area. The Pavilion at The Weils exemplifies a national trend of resident-centered design and shifts the emphasis from illness to wellness and from disability to ability.
If you have not already had a chance to tour this beautiful new addition, I encourage you to come and visit. Over 200 community members were able to see first-hand the 29-bed pavilion at an open house in August. A special thank you to those who have "put their mark" on The Pavilion at The Weils and lent their support including Phillip (of blessed memory) and Bette Braff for the putting green, Bette Braff for the reception desk, Larry Mack for the conference room and Betty and Sid Blumenthal for a golf cart to transport residents to and from each building.
Construction is also the tune at Montefiore where - as I write - finishing touches are being added to the renovation of our auditorium and chapel. Thanks to the generosity of our lead supporters, Milton and Tamar Maltz, this new resident and community gathering space will be a state-of-the-art, audio & video showcase. Thanks to a gift from Lois and Henry Goodman, we will have beautiful display cases for resident art, historical and archival pieces, Judaic art and more. Several other gift opportunities are available. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Beverly Gans, vice president of The Montefiore Foundation at (216) 910-2633 or email bgans@montefiorecare.org.
Transformations are taking place on Mandel 1 as we modify our dementia special care unit and create our own "Central Park." Residents, family members and staff will enjoy the park-like environment which includes green carpets, indoor trees and flowers, park benches and chairs.
Additionally, we have transformed our shower rooms and dining room to be more home-like and sensory-stimulating to residents. These changes are being implemented to provide an environment reminiscent of a resident's past. We thank the Morton Gross family for generously funding this important project.
All this activity has been good preparation for the new beginnings we greet each fall. The Jewish High Holy Days are our people's opportunity to reflect on the growth of the past year and plan for the coming one. Thank you for your continued support through your generosity of time, money and encouragement. We know that Montefiore can continue to depend upon you in the coming year!
On behalf of the entire Montefiore family, I wish everyone L'Shana Tovah, Tikatavu - A Sweet and Healthy New Year!
