Dementia Nursing Care

Dementia Care

Montefiore's Dementia Care Unit is designed for individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementia-related illnesses. We provide specialized nursing in a secured, home-like atmosphere that promotes a calming psychosocial environment including Reiki, aromatherapy, music and art therapy and specially trained staff.

New! Nature Therapy Program and Healing Garden

Nature therapy is a non-threatening social activity that may improve memory, provides sensory stimulation and exercise, reduces stress and tension, diminishes anger, rewards nurturing behavior and may improve memory.

For residents with dementia, activities that are meaningful and help recall their pasts are important. The sights, sounds, smells, tastes and experiences of nature and gardens assist in accomplishing this.

Montefiore offers a complete nature therapy program for the 36 residents on our dementia unit.

The nature therapy program involves our residents in the planting, caring for, and harvesting of an outdoor garden. It also encompasses staff members bringing nature to bed-bound residents.

The nature therapy also encompasses music, art, and aromatherapies to express feelings. Art projects done in a natural setting provide calming effects and heighten creativity.
