Volunteers & Auxiliary
About Volunteering
Join our Family!
We invite you to become a member of our family-the Montefiore family of residents, staff, volunteers and directors by becoming a volunteer.
Join our active volunteer corps of devoted men, women and teens who are committed to using their time and talents to enhance the quality of life for Montefiore residents. Each volunteer works with staff in special programs, activities, events and projects.
Whether you give an hour a week or an hour a month, you will be rewarded in many ways through your relationship with residents, staff and other volunteers.
You can volunteer by yourself, with a friend or in a group. Groups can volunteer year-round or for a specific project such as a holiday program.
Although volunteering has its own rewards-special moments with residents and new friends-we also publicly recognize our volunteers for their devoted service twice a year. We salute our volunteers during National Volunteer Week and at our annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon.
Many of our volunteers belong to the Montefiore Auxiliary, which provides special services to residents and patients. The group operates the MoMart Gift Shop and Posh Nosh Café and uses the proceeds to support activities. Auxiliary-sponsored activities.

Junior Volunteers
Young People Gain the Experience of a Lifetime
Overall Goals
The junior volunteer corps at Montefiore is a vital and exciting component of our overall volunteer opportunities. Care for the aging Jewish population is a growing concern for future leaders. The junior volunteer program exposes young people to the rewarding aspects of such work. It helps develop leadership skills among young people ages 10 to 18.
Our junior volunteers gain a greater understanding of the needs of the aging community by enhancing the lives and providing care and services to this important population. Here at Montefiore we are placing young leaders and volunteers in a Jewish environment committed to caring, compassion and customer service. .
Opportunities
Volunteering at Montefiore is a good way to make new friends and earn community service hours that are required by many schools, temples and synagogues. We are happy to provide letters of hours certification. Our junior volunteer program operates all year long.
The following are some of the volunteer opportunities available:
- Help with arts and crafts projects
- Assist residents with Bingo
- Cashier in the snack shop
- "Adopt a grandparent"
- Participate in Shabbat services
- Become a friendly visitor
- Transport residents to events
- Teach residents to use a computer
- Prepare recipes with residents in "Bubbe's Kitchen"
- Play board games with residents
- Entertain with your special musical skills.
Recognition
Junior volunteers are honored in August at the Junior Volunteer Recognition Event when we give the award for Junior Volunteer of the Year. All current junior volunteers are given certificates. We also have other social events such as the Ice Cream Social to kick off our summer program.
